Party at Greenwood Preserve – Saturday October 11, 2025. 2 PM
Attention Edward L. Rose Conservancy Members:
Please mark your calendars for a Greenwood Preserve “coming out” party on Saturday, October 11th. The early afternoon event will include light refreshments and a guided tour of the hiking trails now available to our members and their families. The event will begin at 2:00 pm, starting time to be announced in a later message. We will also be inviting guests from the Woodbourne Preserve stewardship committee, the Salt Springs trails committee, the Susquehanna Co. Conservation District and the Community Foundation. Come join other forest conservation enthusiasts in getting to know one of the county’s hidden treasures.
The Greenwood Preserve is a private-access version of the Woodbourne Preserve, located a few miles from Dimock and about 15 minutes south of Montrose. Take route 29 south from Montrose. Turn left at the main intersection in Dimock onto rte 2024 East and drive for about 1.8 miles to the sign/driveway for Greenwood Sanctuary on the right.
Available for the use of Conservancy members, Greenwood features a small lake, a restored barn and several hiking trails, mostly through forested areas but also including a meadow walk. The Conservancy board recently repaired the access road, cleared trails and fixed up the (outdoor) sanitation facilities. We’re eager to show off this property to our members and invited guests and are doing so by hosting a guided hiking event. We chose a date during the annual Artists’ Open House Weekend when the fall foliage is usually at its peak and many County residents are already out enjoying the scenery.
