Invitation to Greenwood Sanctuary Event

This is both a reminder and an invitation. Earlier this month you received a “save

the date” request, promising an invitation with more details at a later date.

The E.L. Rose Conservancy invites members and special guests to the Greenwood

Sanctuary in Dimock, PA on Saturday, October 10, 2026 beginning at 2:00 pm. All

invitees may bring family members or other guests. The event will include light

refreshments (cider and ginger snaps) and feature a woods walk led by Department

of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) forester Michael Antonishak.

Conservation Specialist Kristi Sullivan, author of the new forest management plan

for Greenwood, will also be present. They will outline how landowners,

conservancies and volunteers can promote the long-term health of local forests

and protect these resources for future generations.

This event will be informal and family-friendly. It is designed as an optional

destination for members and guests who may already be enjoying the fall weather

and foliage on the first day of the Artists’ Tour weekend. This year our invited

guests include E.L. Rose members, the Susquehanna County Forest Landowners’

Association, the Board of Directors of Salt Springs Park, the Woodbourne

Stewardship Committee and employees of the Susquehanna County Conservation

District. It is a “rain or shine” event; if necessary we will hold it inside the barn.

The woods walk begins just after 2:00 p.m. It will take about 90 minutes, with trail

junctions where people may leave early by taking shortcuts back to the barn.

Depending on the turnout, we might consider dividing into smaller groups to take

longer or shorter routes. If you intend to participate in the walk, please wear

supportive footwear and bring bug spray for ticks.

The Greenwood Sanctuary is a smaller version of the Woodbourne Preserve, also

in Dimock. Available for the use of E.L. Rose Conservancy members, Greenwood

features a pond, restored barn and hiking trails. We hope E.L. Rose members will

return with their families at other times for private exercise and enjoyment.

Directions to Greenwood Preserve: From the main stoplight in Montrose, take

State Route 29 south. Pass the blinking light in South Montrose (3 miles.) Pass

the entrance to Woodbourne Preserve on the left (2 ½ miles.) Turn left at the

blinking light at the Dimock/Brooklyn Road (1 mile). Pass Baker Road on the left

and Carter on the right (1 mile). After another ½ mile, look for the Greenwood

sign on the right, near the bottom of a long hill. Turn right and follow the one-lane

access road to the pond and barn. We look forward to seeing you on the 10th!
