Greenwood Sanctuary – Meet your State Forester Saturday October 10, 2026
Save the Date: Meet your State Forester
at the Greenwood Sanctuary
Saturday, October 10th
The Board of Directors of the E.L. Rose Conservancy invites members and special
guests to the Greenwood Sanctuary in Dimock, PA on Saturday, October 10, 2026,
beginning at 2:00 p.m.. The event will include light refreshments (cider and ginger
snaps), along with a guided tour of Greenwood’s forest loop trail. This year’s
speaker and hike leader is Michael Antonishak, from the Bureau of Forestry, PA
Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR),
The Greenwood Sanctuary is a private-access version of the nearby Woodbourne
Preserve. Located 1 1⁄2 miles east of Dimock, Greenwood is about 15 minutes
south of Montrose. It features a country lane access road, a small lake, a restored
barn and several hiking trails. Since last year the barn has been repaired and
repainted. E.L. Rose is eager to show this property to its members, hoping they
will return at other times for private enjoyment.
Last year we hosted a similar event led by local forester Jim Kessler. Those who
attended enjoyed the beautiful fall colors, the park-like setting and an educational
hike through meadows and forests. Later this month you will receive more details
on this year’s event, including driving directions to Greenwood. For now please
put this date on your calendar as part of your Artist’s Open House weekend plans.
