Riparian Buffer Planting – check on the young Trees

One of the long term projects of the Conservancy involves partnering with the Water Quality Committee of the Silver Lake Association and planting of trees on Conservancy property  in the areas near the outlet and the inlet streams of Silver Lake.

The new trees will stabilize the soil and take up nutrients as our future forest grows.

The young trees ( year three) at two inlet streams at the north end of the lake off Quinn road are due for an annual check-up.
Riparian Buffer tree checkup – Saturday August 23 at 4:00 PM. ( likely lasting 1.5 hours)
Meet on Quinn Road near the orange cones.
Activity/tasks:
1. Check the tree inside the tube for viability. Replace any dead tree with a live sapling.
2. Clear weeds from around the base of the tree.
3. Straighten the green tube and secure the wooden stake
4. Tie a ribbon near the top of the tube to indicate that the tree has received some attention.
Tools:
1. Weed clippers
2. Hammer
3. Gloves
4. Sturdy footwear
5. Shovel
6  Hat, sunscreen, bug spray
Many of the precocious young trees are growing up beyond the tube height and will be ready to be freed of the tube shelter by next summer.
