Fisher on Trail Camera

A fisher was spotted locally by a Conservancy member on a trail camera that was set up to watch for wild turkeys.
The fisher is a member of the weasel family, which includes mink and skunks.

Fishers are native to Pennsylvania but loss of forest habitat in the 1800’s greatly reduced their numbers. Their reintroduction to PA has resulted in their numbers increasing. Fishers were hunted for their fur.

Fishers range in weight from five to 14 pounds, with males being larger than females. Fishers are
as at home in the forest canopy as they are on the forest floor. Their diet includes songbirds, squirrels, rabbits, porcupines and carrion. They are agile tree climbers. Their rear feet can rotate nearly 180 degrees to enable them to easily climb down a tree head-first.
