Cornell Interns Complete Summer Projects

The Conservancy was again blessed and impressed with the energy, intelligence, and hard work from the Cornell interns working on projects at Greenwood Sanctuary and High Point Preserve in the Summer of 2016.
Nicole Thuzar Tu-Maung, Cory Snyder, and Briana J. Binkerd-Dale, working under the supervision of Kristi Sullivan and Steve Morreale from Cornell’s Department of Natural Resources, worked on salamander surveys, forest monitoring plots, and invasive species monitoring. Their positive attitudes, good humor and hard work were of great help in continuing the long term monitoring of our local environment, and we will miss them as friends as well as interns.
The interns also were instrumental in supporting the annual meeting held at Greenwood Sanctuary. They presented a number of local species of amphibians and reptiles found at the Greenwood sanctuary property.

The interns, working under the direction of Kristi Sullivan, worked at the Greenwood Sanctuary; Cory points the way to another discovery for the day.

The interns took to the water at Silver Lake and monitored the hemlock trees for evidence of the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid, an invasive insect.

Briana gathers GPS data at locations along the lake shore, to enable other interns to return to the same locations in the future for further monitoring.
